The Canary Islands represent all year round summer vacations for sun starved Northern Europeans. Although the Canary Islands belong to Spain, they are located in the Atlantic Ocean just off the North-African coastline and are a two hour flight from the Spanish mainland and a four hour flight from the United Kingdom.
Tenerife along with La Gomera, La Palma, El Hierro, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria makeup the Canary Islands which are of volcanic origin and have some of the best beaches in the whole of Europe. Owing to the fabulous Canary Island weather the sun drenched beaches are busy all year round.
Tenerife has a tropical climate and is a popular winter sun resort as well as a summer beach holiday destination for families with children. The Tenerife Airport has been split into two terminals located at opposite ends of the island. The North Terminal is located near the islands capital of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and is also very close to Puerto de la Cruz which is the oldest tourist resort on the island.
On the southerly end you will find the mass tourist resorts of Tenerife which are Playa De Las Americas, Los Cristianos, Playa de Fañabe and the Costa Adeje. Owing to the heavy concentration of tourists in the area, there are also two water parks in the vicinity which are open all year round which are the Siam Park and Aqualand as well as the Loro Parque which started out as a parrot park but now hosts a whole menagerie of animals.
Night life enthusiast usually head for the Playa de Las Americas to dance and party the night away. The nightlife venue to head for is locally known as Veronica?s Strip. Veronicas is frequented mainly by the young and is well known for its loud music and cheap drinks. To Clubs to visit on Veronica?s Strip include the Joker of Sound, Busby?s Nightclub, O?Neill?s Bar, Edwards Bar, Flirtz Bar, Bonker?s Beach Bar, Anthony Bar, China White Bar, Oasis Bar, Open Air Bar, Rooftops Bar, Wakiki?s Beach Bar and the Yordy?s Bar.
The Patch is located in a multi-level commercial centre filled with shops bars, pubs and restaurants offering family friendly evening entertainment which of course includes the ever popular karaoke. Most bars are family friendly and serve food all day until around three am and live music entertainment will usually consist of a band, tribute acts cabaret and the ever popular drag shows. Also located in the Patch is the Dubliner Bar, the Full Monty Bar, Gaelic Corner Bar, Sax Bar, Shenanigans Bar, Blayden Races Bar and Gangsters Patch.
Starco Commerical Centre is a five minute walk away from Veronica?s Strip and here the top club to visit is Tramp?s Nightclub which in the summer months host events regularly with top class DJ?s responsible for the choice of music. More popular nightlife hot spots in the Starco Commercial Centre include the Down Under Bar, Rags Nightclub, Player?s Lounge, Yates Show Bar, Brannigan?s Bar, The Mett Bar, Lineker?s Bar, the Voodoo Bar Lounge, Fitzpatricks Irish Bar, Judge Jules Bar, Kristie?s Bar, Murphy?s Irish Bar and Soul?s Bar.
Leonardo?s Bar and the American Dream Bar are located two minutes away on foot from both the Starco Commerical Centre and Veronica?s Strip. Nearby you will also find the Drunk N Duck Bar, Travellers Rest, Jag?s Café Bar, PI Bar, Bell Bar, Railway Tavern, Corner Bar, Wetherspoons, and the Chieftain Bar. Murphy?s Irish Bar can be found opposite Starcos while the Pleasure Island Bar is located right next door.
The Player?s Lounge and Yates Bar is under ownership of the same people who own Wigans Pier in Los Cristianos also worth a visit. The Bubblicious Foam Party in the Castillo San Miguel in the summer months is also not to be missed, just don?t bring your poshest frocks!
One of the most popular Tenerife nightclubs is the Liquid Nightclub in neighbouring Los Cristianos.
Look out for the Roxy Risque Cabaret Comedy Act which takes place in different locations on different days of the week.
Gay bars in Playa de Las Americas include the Gemini Bar, Cellas Bar, Chaplins Bar, Punto Zero Bar and the Playaflor Chill Out Bar.
Most bars and clubs don?t charge admission and there is no strict dress code either, although bare chests are forbidden. Bars, pubs, discos, cabaret, show bars, and clubs tend to shut their doors around four in the morning.
